Facts
and Questions
Q. How far in advance do I need to schedule my transport?
A. Your
vehicle will be scheduled on a truck that is routed nationally,
therefore, the more time you give us, the better. We suggest a week
at most times. There is a space on your Shipping Order for you to
note the first date that the vehicle is available for pick-up. If
you are leaving the area, you must plan enough time for us to pick-up
the vehicle before you go. If, for some reason, this cannot be done,
you must have an alternative party (friend, relative, neighbor)
who will be able to deliver and sign the vehicle on to the truck
for you.
Q. Where will my car be picked up and delivered?
A. Door
to door service is what we seek however there are variations. Due
to the fact that most of the trucks are 75 feet in length, it is
impossible for them to get into most residential areas. Low hanging
wires, narrow streets, and municipal ordinances are just a few of
the obstacles we face. Therefore, we ask that you work with the
truck driver in arranging a mutually acceptable place for you to
meet to load and unload your vehicle. We have found that neighborhood
shopping centers generally have large enough parking lots to accommodate
the trucks.
Q. Is my car insured?
A. Your
vehicle is insured by liability coverage the entire time it is on
the truck. Occurrences not covered are clearly listed on your Shipping
Order and on the Bill of Lading upon which your car is shipped.
A condition report is done on pick-up. The person turning the car
over and the truck driver both sign this report and a copy is given
to the party delivering the car. This same report is presented upon
delivery of the vehicle at its destination and you should compare
the car to the report thoroughly at that time. If, for some reason,
you feel that some damage has occurred, you must note it on the
report before you sign it and before the driver leaves. Any claims
made after this time will not be honored.
Q. Can I pack things in my car?
A. Any
personal belongings left in the vehicle are shipped strictly at
the owner's personal risk. This policy is strictly enforced for
the following reason:
a) Personal belongings are not covered by the carrier's insurance.
The driver will not inventory any such items and will not assume
responsibility for them.
b) The added weight can and will cause damage to the exhaust
system and this is also not covered by the carrier's insurance.
c) Items not properly packed may fly around the inside of
a vehicle and damage its interior. This is not covered by the carrier's
insurance.
d) The Department of Transportation basically does not legally
allow for the transport of household goods (personal belongings)
in vehicles being transported on auto carriers. They have been known
to take vehicles off the truck, unload for inspection, and simply
leave goods sittings on the side of the road. All trucks are subject
to this. Please remember this when preparing your vehicle for shipment
with ANY carrier.
Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM NOT THERE TO RECEIVE
MY CAR WHEN IT ARRIVES ?
A. In
the event you cannot be reached in a suitable amount of time, or
you are not in the area, your vehicle will either remain in the
truck for a later delivery, or the vehicle will be put in storage
until such time as you can arrange for it to be picked up. Vehicles
put in storage are subject to additional transport charges.
Q.
How do I pay for services?
A. A
deposit or prepayment must be received in our office, along with
a signed Shipping Order, before your vehicle is scheduled for transport.
All payments must be in the form of a Money Order, Cashier's Check,
cash, or personal checks within the State of California.
Q.
How should I pack and how much is enough protection?
A. Let's look at it from the carriers' point of view if you
contacted them with something broken in your move that you packed.
They want to see if you properly packed it and how much packing
was placed around the item so that they can determine if their handling
was the problem or lack of sufficient packaging was the issue. A
general rule of thumb is to always have a minimum of 2 or more inches
of packing material between the outside of your item and the box
it is in. Some really fragile items are packed this way in smallish
boxes, and then nestled inside larger boxes with 2 or more inches
of Styrofoam packing peanuts as further insulation. When you consistently
pack this way, nothing rattles, gets broken unless the box gets
rough handling. When you've packed well, getting satisfaction from
insurance claims is vastly easier and quicker, too.(Note: when shipping
prepacked boxes some package carriers will give you up to $100 value
per box and some will give you only $0.10/pound. You should always
be able to get insurance to cover your shipments up to the value
you need, but proper packing will be what you need to do to get
the benefits from insurance.
Q.
PLEASE MAKE SPECIAL NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING
A. WE
DO NOT GUARANTEE ANY PARTICULAR DAY, TIME OR LOCATION FOR THE PICK-UP
OR DELIVERY OF YOUR VEHICLE. ALL TRANSPORTS ARE WORKED ON THE ROUTING
AND SCHEDULED OF THE TRUCK, NOT ON THE TIME FRAME OF ANY CERTAIN
VEHICLE OR VEHICLES. We try very hard to work with you and your
time frame to the best of our ability and ask that you do the same
for us.
Each truck is working 8 to 11 cars at all times and they are
continually picking up and dropping cars. They are constantly contending
with weather conditions, road conditions, traffic conditions, mechanical
function and DOT regulation. You must keep these things in mind
during all phases of your transport.
PLEASE BE SURE TO READ ALL OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS LISTED
ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF YOUR SHIPPING ORDER. THESE ARE THE TERMS
AND CONDITIONS THAT GOVERN YOUR TRANSPORT.
We have tried to answer some of the questions people most often
ask. If there is something that we have missed, please feel free
to give us a call.
Thank you for your time and interest.
